[from Hungarian Lobby Digest]:
: September 1, 1996
X-Newsreader: TIN [version 1.2 PL2]

: Dear Colleagues,

: It's, of course, interesting to see that Mr. Tinca recognizes the Lobby as an
: opponent.

: I commend to those who might think this a victory, Joel Chandler "Uncle
: Remus." Brer Fox (Tinca?) is heard pleading, not to be thrown into the brier
: patch.

: When the Communists updated this fable, the prudent in the West kept focus on
: the objective, treated pronouncements with caution, often was forced to
: recognize it was nothing more than disinformation. JAB

: Hungary summons parliament on Rumania treaty
: BUDAPEST, Aug 28 (Reuter) - The Hungarian parliament will hold an
: extraordinary session on September 3 to discuss a treaty which Hungary plans
to
: sign with Romania next month, Zoltan Gal, Chairman of the Parliament said on
: Wednesday. The accord, which lays new foundations for their relationship, is
: vital for both countries' ambitions to join NATO and the European Union.
: The extraordinary session was initiated by the left-wing opposition to
: Hungary's ruling socialist-liberal coalition. According to the original
: schedule, the parliament should only assemble in the second week of September
.
: Hungarian opposition leaders and representatives of Hungarian communitie
s
: in both Romania and Slovakia have accused Budapest of neglecting the interest
s
: of millions of Hungarians living in neighbouring countries.
: The focus of their anger is a footnote to the treaty agreed with Romania
: as a way out of the deadlock which they allege limits the scope of autonomy f
or
: Hungarian ethnic minorities living in the neighbouring countries, such as
: Romania and Slovakia. The government said the treaty would guarantee the
: rights of Hungarian ethnic minorities and Hungary would sign the accord with
: Romania despite the criticism.
: The ruling coalition holds more than two-thirds of the votes in
: parliament, and that is enough for the parliament to approve the treaty despi
te
: opposition protests.

Magyar Hirlap: 74% of Romanian Hungarians support treaty. Refer: OMRI
DDigest, Sept. 13, 1996. The "criticized" treaty seems to have some support.

+ - Re: Research aid needed on Ladjos Kossut (mind) VÁLASZ  Feladó: (cikkei)

First step in your research is to spell his name correctly, otherwise
little information will be found. LAJOS KOSSUTH. In US, he is sometimes
referred to as Louis Kossuth. In Hungary, Kossuth Lajos. My page has
some background on him, but others will have more.
