  Reports are circulating on the nets and via "reputable" news
  sources that Windows 95 contains a "viral" feature called the
  Registration Wizard. This feature allegedly catalogs software and
  applications on a Windows 95 machine (and every system connected
  to it via a network), and then sends that information to Microsoft
  via Windows 95's online registration system.

  TidBITS is tired of hearing about this (we're a Mac publication,
  folks!), so here's the scoop. First, there's nothing "viral" about
  the Registration Wizard - that word is just some dolt's idea of
  sensational journalism. The Registration Wizard is an application
  that in no way propagates or spreads to other disks or machines.

  Second, the Registration Wizard isn't designed to sniff through
  your hard disk and find juicy letters or code snippets you may
  have written: it **is** designed as a technical support tool.
  Anyone who's ever tried to help a Windows user over the phone
  knows why such a tool (and the system information it provides)
  would be useful. Microsoft Network - a separate beastie from the
  Registration Wizard, mind you - does upload information about the
  Windows 95 build and language installed (English, German, Dutch,
  etc.) so that users can take advantage of online updates without
  becoming a Certified MSN Upgrade Engineer. But remember, that's a
  separate deal from the Registration Wizard.

  Third, yes, the Registration Wizard **can** scan the system's hard
  disk and compile information about the machine, including the
  installed software packages, but it does not look out onto any
  network the user might be connected to. To quote Russ Siegelman,
  General Manager of Microsoft Online Services, "this is done only
  with the user's consent and is not required to complete the
  registration." The complete text of what the Registration Wizard
  sends is supposed to be available in the file \WINDOWS\REGINFO.TXT
  - and **please** don't ask me to verify that.

  If all this makes you nervous, just use the snail mail
  registration card - or better yet, buy a Mac. And - for our
  paranoid readers - don't think other companies (Apple included)
  aren't thinking about similar online system profiling and
  reporting. Remember, you may not know what AOL, eWorld, or your
  Web browser is doing behind your back. Oh, one last thing, no more
  mail about this, OK? [GD]

Koszonet a szalagos archivalas kapcsan kapott tanacsokert, 
informaciokert. Ime itt a kovetkezo problemam (es mondja valaki, hogy 
a nyar uborkaszezon!): UPS intelligens visszacsatolasa a szerverre 
NetWare 3.11/3.12 alatt. Az UPS.NLM megvan, de letoltve keri a kutyu 
tipusat, ami ha mouse (??), akkor nem kell port cim, de kell driver, 
ha meg mas, akkor port cimet ker... Mi a teendo? Az UPS-hez is kell 
driver, mint a mouse-hoz? Es mi az a port cim? Az UPS egy zart doboz, 
azon nics mit beallitani, es kartya sincs hozza? Minden tanacsot 
megkoszonok; ha kell, az UPS tipusaval is tudok szolgalni... Elore is 
koszonom!

Gravis-osok figyelmet kerem. Kaptam egy ftp-site cimet:

anonymous-kent bejelentkeztem, majd letoltve az index00 es egyeb infos 
allomanyokat es elkezdem kutatni, de csak tized annyit talaltam meg 
tenylegesen.

Mi ennek az oka? Kell valami specialis login nev, hogy mindent la'ssak, 
ami le van irva? Van valami tukor-sitejuk?

<Az egyik newsgroupban talaltam egy elegge horrorisztikus jelenetet.

Tenyleg eleg horrorisztikus a jelenet. Szemely szerint elkovettem 4 verzio,
a tavalyi, az april beta (ezen irok), juni beta (ez eleg instabil) es a
mostani(tegnapi! + pluspack es nincs benne "beta"!!) telepiteset, es
elmondhatom, hogy egyik sem akart a tudtom nelkul modemezni. A "do:g", az en
aprilisi kiadasom kevesebbszer fagyott meg az elmult par honapban, mint a
sima Win3.11 ugyanazokat a proggykat hasznalva a halozatrol, es a
plus-packban benne van az a dial-up server, amivel halozatot (ill.
eroforrasok megosztasat) lehet csinalni ket gep kozott telefonon ...ezt
kerdezte valaki. Persze sokkal jobban esne ha nem akadna ki, Pl.: UNIX mag,
win95 kinezettel. (ja, lesz ilyesmi az MS-tol Daytona fedoneven Cray szintu
hardverekre... :-))

Palomarnak VIP lemezhez:

Ugy hangzik, mintha az ide vezerlok vagy a lemezek veszekednenek.
Ha ket eide vezerlod van alaplapon, akkor a floppy-hoz kapcsolt
vezerlonek semmi helye a gepben, amig az azon levo ide nincs 
letiltva.
Gondolom, a ket conner lemezt be tudod setup-olni  ket drive-os
rendszerben master-slave uzemmodra.

Javaslom, hogy haladj szisztematikusan:
- vedd ki a masodik winyot, a cd-t es a floppy ide vezerlojet.
nezd meg, hogy igy mukodik-e (gondolom, igen)
- tedd vissza az elso vezerlore a masodik lemezt
  (floppy, cd kint marad), ugyelj a helyes lemez setupra
teszteld le. Ezutan tedd be a cd-t, megint teszt.
Keress olyan beallitast az isa ide-n, hogy ne legyen rajta
ide, ugy rakd be.

Gond lehet meg az is, hogyha bekapcsolva felejted a
nagy lemezek elereset segito setupot es nem eide diszked
van. (Large disk access, lba, vagy valami hasonlo menupont).
Ettol ugyan nem szokott instabill lenni, de gyakran nem
olvassa el az adatokat (szektoronkent olvashato, a dos meg
nem talal rajta semmit).

2. Mivel a floppyk sebessege viszonylag kicsi, nem hangzik 
logikatlannak, hogy ne csinaljanak pci-os floppyt.
Sajna, a te alaplapodon az edie VESA localbusos.
Teljesen szubjektiv maganvelemenyem az, hogy ha komoly alaplapot
akarsz, akkor hajitsd ki a vesa-t, ha meg jatekszert, akkor
ne pazarolj pci-ra. (ezt egyebkent tobb linuxos listan leirt
velemeny is alatamasztja). Nekem egy tiszta pci alaplapom van,
nem volt vele komoly bajom.

3. A 384 KB-ot azert tunt el, mert az alaplap nem lapozta ki a
dos 640k-1m memoria tartomanybol. Keress ilyen setup pontot
a bios setupban (memory relocation).
