Hi,

Slight change of subject. Can anyone explain the difference between sweet and
sharp paprika? And which type is generally used in Hungary?

Thanks,

Steve Herold

I thought pommie was exclusive to oz...
You are right, but size is - as per usual - immaterial.
Also, I believe, it's a north usage.

Dear Mr. President,

By signing the Paris Peace Treaty on February 10, 1947, the United Stated,
together with the other Great Powers, guaranteed the rights of the indigenous
national communities of Hungarians outside Hungary. As a member of the 1.58
million community of Hungarian-Americans, I would like to learn whether, upon
being reelected, you would take steps to fulfill that guarantee.

The Paris Peace Treaty would have required Hungary's neighbors to return the
schools and church properties of the Hungarian communities, to guarantee the
free use of Hungarian language and education, and to provide autonomy for
these communities.

During the years of Soviet occupation, the United States could not act on her
guarantee. After 1989, the civil war in Bosnia has distracted our attention.
As a Hungarian-American voter, I feel that the time has come
to fulfill our obligations, and therefore I intend to vote for the candidate
who promises to do so.

Consequently, I would be grateful if you would either make a public statement
on this issue or would incorporate your position into the foreign policy
 platform of the Democratic Party.

Respectfully yours,

Louis Elteto in connection with the MDF conference:

No, it doesn't mean that the MDF is anti-Semitic or that Hungarians in
general are antisemitic. I think it tells us something about Hungarian
political culture. Otherwise, I would simply like to know the truth about
what happened for sake of accuracy, especially since there are so many
complaints about the objectivity of Hungarian journalists.

:You know it is hard to give you hard facts about what a turist can
expect in Hungary. Some people enjoy it very much, some don't. It all
depends on how you approach things. If you criticize everything and look
down on how life is there, you will have a terrible time. If I were you,
I would buy a travel book, even though you don't want to, and would
approach my forthcoming visit with curiosity and openness. No matter
which country you visit, it is always safe to ask people what areas are
not safe, especially at night. Even though I'm Hungarian and been away
for ten years now, whenever I go home I'm always fascinated about the
changes that have occured since my last visit. So, it is almost
impossible to tell you what to expect exactly. Most likely you'll have a
good time. Just go and enjoy yourself, I wish I could.

Csopak (near Balatonfured). The house is situated on a top of a hill
with a beautiful panorama view over Lake Balaton.
