I would like to rent a small furnished apartment in Budapest Oct 4-17.
My earlier note drew only one reply. I would be grateful for any advice
as to where else I could post a note and where I could get some info as
to available apartments in Budapest. Is there a travel guide or other
book or periodical with ads?
Thanks in advance.

>please explain this term....

1. In indoeuropian languages the structure of the language is quite
rigid compared to Hungarian where you can liberaly invert the
order of words and the sentence remains grammaticaly correct,
with slight changes in the emphasis.

Tegnap Katival moziba mentem.
Moziba mentem tegnap Katival.
Katival mentem tegnap moziba.
Katival mentem moziba tegnap.
Mentem moziba tegnap Katival.
Mentem tegnap Katival moziba.
etc.
etc.
etc.

When you read them some might sound strange but in certain
circumstances they are proper sentences.

2. The semantic sense of the sentence is concentrated rather
into the words than the structure of sentence.

Try to translate the next sentences to any IE-language with
same number of or less :) word:

Szeretlek.
Megcsináltathattátok volna másodikára.
Megfürdetted mielött lefektetted ?

It just a stupid mechanical (physics) paralell: the bigger,
the rigider, the combined from more pieces breaks easier
than the small, compact things.

I would like to read the poetry of Chandor Patofy (excuse
misspelling please) in English. Can anyone recommend a
translation that is currently in print and, if possible, give the
ISBN number. Thank you.

As I will be visiting Budapest in July and would like to have a real GREAT
time I would be very happy if you could answer one or some or all of the
following questions:

Do you know some House-Clubs or Raves (taking place in july)? What kinda
music is being played? What people? Nice doorman? Adress?

Are there any Hungaryan house or techno-acts or labels (no Mark Oh-dirt
please) you can recommend?

Where can I buy their records?

Where to find flyers?

Are there any usefull www-sites?

Some other tips (concerts, bars, cafes, restaurants, cheap hotels, ...)?

I would appreciate your answer. Please e-mail me. My adress is

Thanx in advance!

In article > T. Kocsis > writes

This is not IE or not, rather relying on marks or on word order. See
languages from India.

>Megcsináltathattátok volna másodikára.
>Megfürdetted mielött lefektetted ?

Word boundaries (spaces) are conventional, _je t'aime_ is as much one word
as _szeretlek_. With different conventions they would have been _j(e)taime_
and _szeret l ek_ (with a word made of one consonant like in Russian).
Same for the others, but there are so many little pieces in these Hungarian
words that the new number of words would be more than anything known ;-)

>It just a stupid mechanical (physics) paralell: the bigger,

So we have
 - the big Hungarian constructions, made from much more little pieces
 - the Hungarian rigidity in demanding all grammar links to be shown, also
differenciating between nouns, verbs and adjective
and on the other hand
 - the small basic words of English
 - the compact information of a new different word in English when Hungarian
   uses various suffixes instead
and you seem to conclude that Hungarian breaks more easily. But no, in the
last centuries Hungarian has evolved no more than English (no less either).
:-) [I know this is not exactly what you meant]

I feel guilty, it must be Romania that has done you in. A sad day to see
a 'poet' having to stretch the limits of the English language in the cut
and paste manner of a Texas Chainsaw Massacre.

You exhibit the manic ravings of the intellectually challenged apprentice
that is trying to pass himself as a master craftsman !

> "In the name of Poetic Licence, may Poetic Justice prevail."

I regret if you have trouble reconciling the fragile, make believe house of
cards world that you built to escape the realities of a world in which you
are clearly unfit to compete.

As for the infantile scribblings of your one whoar fan club, the best way
to describe her willingness to be tickled by anything that makes Romanians
look bad is an old hungarian saying, describing the laughter of the imbecile:
'Rohog mint egy fa kutya' !

Big Mambo's is din quasi-dungeon nightclub with interesting people. A
lot of Finns and Hungarians hang out here and its a great atmosphere, but
if you don't smoke, stay away. Sometimes they have sax player there and
they usually close when they feel like it, 3:00 am to 7:00 am. If you
want Rave try The Viking if you can find it. Another alternative scene
is the Black Hole...but be warned its a rough place. Another relaxing
place is Tilos Az A which used to be the number one alternative scene in
Budapest but that is slowly fading. Its a great music scene, I saw
John Zorn there (or someone that looked just like him and responded to
the name of John). Bands ranging from Samba to Avant-garde industrial
to cross-dressing is there. If you're into that expatriate scene then go
to Picasso Point...that is if you want to hang out with a lot of
Americans. Enjoy.
