I was asking you smart-alecks exactly the same thing...

There was a list of about 70 words, compared in 5 or so
languages... If you are not an "imbecile, self-centered,
ethno-centric, ill-informed, ignorant pathetic" yourself
then stop raving, and disprove the similarities claimed
among those words in those languages...

How did you know...? :)

Fine mister, then cut the baloney and get to work...! All
you have to do is to show that there are German, Spanish,
Zulu, Cherokee, Andes, Kurdish, etc. (as you had claimed)
words as similar to those 70 Sumerian words (as the words
given in Finnish, Hungarian, Turkish and Mongolian)...

> To give a few examples: tomato, potato, lemon, pilot,

Impressive...! In my previous posting, I dared you guys
to: "show us all how much brain you've got and what you
eat for breakfast"... Are the above is what you eat for
breakfast...? :)

Desperate remarks will not help your belly-aching... :(

Below are the Sumerian words that have been compared to
Finnish, Hungarian, Turkish and Mongolian. All you need
to do is find similar correspondances to them in German,
Zulu, Spanish, Cherokee, Andes and Kurdish...

Should be a piece of cake for a "smart one" like you...
In fact if it will help you, you may pick another set of
70 Sumerian words to compare with German, Zulu, Spanish,
Cherokee, Andes and Kurdish ones...

Now get to work...!

I am afraid it is. I can't be sure, of course, since I live in Canada,
but I was in Budapest last year, and nobody told me about golf courses.
You see, the Hungarians are not golfers, it is a British sport. However,
there are not so many Northamericans working there that they established
one maybe. Call the consulate and ask.

Hi !

I didn't catch the original post, so I don't know who I'm talking to,
sorry.
If you're in the USA then check out a company called Audio Forum (
1-800-243-1234 ) ask for thier free catalog. They have materials for
almost any language you could come up with, including Magyar.

Good luck!
+ - Re: I want to learn Hungarian...how and where? (mind) VÁLASZ  Feladó: (cikkei)

As an American who successfully learned Hungarian relatively well I can
say that the only way to *really* learn Hungarian is to live there. I was
there for two years and spoke Hungarian almost exclusively. I learned for
a while before I went there but the real learning occurs when you can get
there. If that is not practical I think you can learn reading OK but you
will have a hard time learning to speak fluently.

Concerning resources I have heard that the book Teach Yourself Hungarian
is quite good. I have not personally used it but I have looked through it
and can attest that whoever wrote it is at least aware of the cultural
aspects of the language so that you get semi-real dialogue instead of the
usual "How are you Comrade Horvath? Was your vacation on the Balaton
suitably relaxing?" kind of stuff one gets in the older Communist era
textbooks.

Overall I found the Hungarians I knew to be wuite supportive when I
learned the language. They were patient and enthusiastic about my efforts.
By far the most friendly people I know of to learners.

You can prove nothing! heh heh. Say, didn't those pesky Norse just
keep heading West......? I remember a couple of settlements west of
Greenland in northern Canada that they suspect were Norse in origin.
Perhaps it got cold, they ran out of sheep, went completely crazy and
ate each other up. Better still, how about the possibility that they
integrated into Greenlandic settlements and were absorbed into the
population. How often were the supply ships checking up on Eric and
his merry crew......every hundred years. As McDonald's says: "hey, it
could happen!"
