Project Manager (Information Services)
The Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe
(REC) invites applications for the position of Project Manager
(Information Services). The successful candidate will fundraise for
and implement different Information Program projects.
The mission of the Information Program is to provide free access to
information, and to assist others in improving access to
information. Concentrating on the Central and Eastern European
region, it also promotes cooperation amongst environmental
stakeholders. Through its activities the program can raise
environmental awareness and facilitate public involvement in
decision making processes - thus encouraging greater environmental
responsibility among diverse target groups.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
1. Supporting the RECís Information Services (managing a large 18
month project in the framework of the Balkan Stability Pact and the
Regional Environmental Reconstruction Programme) by:
Respondingto information requests via email, telephone, fax, and in
person on CEE environmental issues utilizing the RECís library and
electronic information resources.
Catalogingperiodicals, books and legislation using an automated
library system.
Maintenanceand further development of the RECís library collection
Supportingthe strategic development of the information/library
service through launching of an Internet domain, and exploring
cooperative ventures with other pan-European and national
environmental information providers (EEA, UNEP, ESA etc.).
2. Updating and developing REC Information products, databases and
directories (including an Informational Brochure and
Database/Directory of Library and Information Centres)
3. Supporting the uptake of Information Society Technologies and
electronic information tools in the CEE region through organizing
workshops, surveys, and publications
4. Fundraising for projects that facilitate regional access to
environmental information, including inter alia the REC library and
information service
5. Performing general project management activities while
implementing projects mostly within the Information Program
6. Assisting the Program Head and other department members in special
projects, as requested.
Experience and skill level required:
Familiaritywith regional and pan-European initiatives and policies
concerning access to environmental information (including
information technology related)
Experiencein library/knowledge management
Generalknowledge of environmental issues
Experiencewith library management computer software systems,
computer-based databases
Solidorganizational and project management skills
Excellentcommunication skills in English and one regional language
Abilityto work in a multicultural environment and be a team player
Universitylevel education with relevant specialization
The full-time project assignment, with an employment contract
initially limited to one year, will be based in the Szentendre Head
Office of the REC.
